Kevin Max - Imposter
By Sara Lewis 2006
Kevin Max's
newest release,
The
Imposter,
is catchy and starts strong with 'Confessional Booth,' with personal
lyrics that read like a journal entry. The release is not nearly as
experimental as his
Stereotype B album, but is more pop and radio friendly. The lyrics
are less riddling and more straightforward, which only lets the listener
peer into Max's thoughts with a clearer idea of what he's trying to say.
'Sanctuary ,’
Kevin’s first single off this album is very rock driven with a distinct
guitar and Kevin’s instantly recognizable voice. 'Platform' is a
beautiful song of his struggles with God's chosen plans for him:
Why’d your
choose me when you knew I wasn’t tough enough/Why’d you
send me when you knew I would roam/Why’d you put me in the place’s that
I
didn't want/Why’d you call me when you knew I’d hang up
This song struck a chord
with me because of my similar experiences of struggling with my faith. A
different feeling is evoked in the title track 'Imposter,' which is a
song about the struggle between the flesh and spirit. Again, a very
personal, in depth song and very catchy. The entire album is tight,
polished and finishes beautifully with ‘Fade to Red (Anigalaxy).’ If he
seemed to be experimenting with sounds on his last two solo releases, it
seems like he has found a sound he is comfortable with and is sticking
with it for now.
The Imposter is recommended for fans of his previous work, and
for those looking for a great upbeat car CD.

Into These Rooms
By Lissy Berg 2006
A
few seconds after popping the CD Into These Rooms into your boom box and
pressing the play button, you are greeted with the sweet,
innocent-sounding voice of singer and songwriter Sarah Hart. One glance
at the lyrics proves that her lyrics are just as pure as her voice.
With songs
like ‘Be With Me, Lord’ (derived from Psalm 91), the tenderhearted ‘For
A Little While,’ and worshipful ‘Holy God, We Praise Thy Name,’ just to
name a few, Sarah Hart gives your ears a rare treat of clean, innocent
music.
Sarah Hart
has let loose a well-thought out, pleasing album. Thirteen tracks in
all, the album is filled with honest, touching lyrics and coupled with
her clear soprano voice, Into These Rooms is a real treat for anyone.
