KJ-52 - Behind the Musik (A Boy Named Jonah)
By Lissy Berg 2005

KJ-52 as amazed the crowds with his previous rap albums, and Behind the Musik has been highly anticipated by his fans.  The CD has an astounding twenty-three tracks, each of them filled with original and awesome effects. The first thing you hear when you press play on your boom box is the voice of KJ's dad, talking about the 'boy named Jonah'.  This theme is continued throughout the rest of the album, with several more interludes by KJ-52's dad, and also some with his mother.

Immediately following the intro, there is the funky song "Fivetweezy", which is a definite sing-along. Some of the other songs include "God", featuring Rebecca St. James, which is a love song to God with an amazing chorus.  The title track, "Behind the Music", is the story of KJ's life, describing how he grew up in a rough neighborhood, struggled with his parents' divorce, partied in high school, and eventually came to know Jesus.  One of my personal favorite tracks is "Right Here".  This song features Jeremy Camp, and adds a whole new element to Jeremy's hit song.

My only problem with this CD is that (like many other CDs), several of the songs are a lot alike.  This isn't necessarily a really bad thing, but on the first time listening, it might sound just a little redundant.  However, after a few times listening, it'll be easy to distinguish each song and pick out your own personal favorites. This is really a rare find in today's Christian music market.  Pick one up as soon as you can, because you won't be disappointed!
